Autobiography

Harold “Hype” Williams is an American music video director, film director, film producer, and screenwriter. Williams was born in Queens, New York. He is of African American and Honduran descent. He went to Adelphi University. His nickname “Hype” comes from his hyperactive nature as a child.

He shot the cover photo for playboy in December 2007, with Kim Kardashian being on the front page.

He directed Kanye Wests music video – “All of the Lights” and “Gold Digger”

He won an award for working with Will Smith on his music video “Gettin jiggy wit it” – best rap video.

Looking at the people he works/ed with he seems to mostly collaborate with rappers. i.e. Kanye, Busta and Wu Tang Clan.

Comparing “Get piggy with it” by Will Smith and “Woo hah!! Got you all in check” by Busta Rhymes, he uses bright colours and low angles to make the singers look like a “gangster”

A signature style used by him throughout most of his videos was the Fisheye lens which distorted the camera view around the central focus. Also placing shots in regular widescreen ratio, while a second shot is split and placed in the upper and lower bars.
